I inherited a hoya from a friend; don't know what kind, except that it is sending out long vines and blooms with little waxy flowers with red center; very fragrant.
tends to get mealybug, though. is swabbing with alcohol the best way to control?
should i give it a bath in water with a bit of Ivory soap, then rinse?
and how can I propagate? just take a cutting from a vine, dab it in Rootone and stick in compost?
or should I root it first in water? (which is harder on the plant, right, to switch from water to soil?
Any help appreciated. Thanks!
hoya how to propagate and mealybugs, best way to control
I have found the best way to control mealy bugs, besides the alcohol, is Neem oil. After about 4 applications the little crawlies are eradicated.
They root well in soil, or perlite.
This here is an excellent thread on rooting cuttings.
