Friendly Tropical Fruit people----Just got a lemon from a friend's son's tree. He's so proud. The tree stays inside all yr round. The seeds are nice and plump. Can I grow them? Any tips? Thanks!!

If you nick the seed you may have faster germunation. I have heard of people having 10 year old plants that have not bloomed. I think it takes many years from seed to bloom.

Actually I am not sure it is worth the trouble other than as an experiment. I believe most citrus is grafted and a seed might not breed true or, as Cynthia says, never fruit. I have heard the one exception is Key Lime. I started 2 seedlings, 18 inches or so tall now, as my own experiment.

Meyer Lemons are polyembryonic and will grow true from seed. Do not let the seeds dry before you plant them.

I had mine cool and moist til I planted them last night. I'll let you know +when+ I get sprouts
Pot of five nicked seeds and two that had slices from cutting the lemon, top of microwave- Planted Feb 12.
Three sprouts on day 23. Pot of six un-nicked seeds, windowsill, I sprout at 23 days also.
Now at ten sprouts out of the eleven seeds, one new sprout found today. 4-15-08
I later did another dozen seeds from another fruit and had great germination .
