Second question, the seeds are poisonous if ingested. Think I should be worried about planting this next to a pond? I'm not thinking the seeds would kill off the fish but that would be bad if it happened. 13 acre 25 ft deep pond BTW.
anyone have one of these
This one is a close relative of our native Erythrina herbacea, which sets lots of poisonous seeds but a naturalist told me the deer eat them. I have a E. bidwillii which blooms but never has set seed for me.
Does yours die back every winter? Maybe I'll go native instead of Brazilian.
BTW I'm in a seed trading frenzy right now. LOL. I figured i would try to pick up a few more plants and trees.
I'm interested in this one too. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1254/
LOL, I think they all die back in the winter, at least both of mine lose their leaves.
I have a stubborn Jacaranda too that I grew from seed. No flowers but it is growing in poor soil and no irrigation so maybe it is my fault. Things are set up so it will get water this year and maybe I'll give it a bit of fertilizer too.
Am I slowly recreating your yard? I seem to be coming up with a lot of plants you have this year. I think the Jacaranda would be nice for a big show of purplish color in the spring. I could use one of those magnolias that blooms in the spring but I don't like the way they look the rest of the year.
LOL, that would be bad, I am a psyco gardener at times, obsessively collecting one of almost everything.
If I am not growing it now I have most likely tried it and probably killed it over the years.
