Next shot. Don't know what would happen if the young one didn't move bu they always do.
My Bluebirds, today
How cute!
They are such beautiful birds; great catches Dave!
Dave,
More beautiful photos of the Bluebirds!
Looks like you might have to get more perches in your yard for the Bluebirds! ;-)
Marilyn
the second to the last is perfect!
Very sweet!
Wow, who is he/she? (the last one), please.
Looks like a Song Sparrow.
I love the one where he's flipping his head; very unique looking.:-)
All beauties Dave!
Dave,
More beautiful pics of the beautiful Bluebirds! They're so sweet and adorable!
Thanks for sharing!
Marilyn
They really are beautiful, I see then in the park sometimes, but not as often as I like.
Nice blended background on that one!
As much as I enjoy shooting pictures of the blues for their beauty, I am equally fascinated by their behavior. They have claimed my nestbox and every day they physically defend it against all comers. Even a robin, which is not normally a threat to the blues, will be challenged if he tries to land on the nestbox. I watched it this morning and captured more than a dozen images before the contest ended. This is probably the best of the lot. Incidentally, the robin did eventually win.
This is the kind of scene you sometimes see but rarely, if ever, see captured on film.

Thats a neat one Dave!
Dave, what spendor! What photography! These photographs are so exciting to view. You have captured not only clarity, but the magic of movement and a true story of a little family. Such talent, Dave.
Martha
They are such beautiful birds!
You've done such a great job of capturing them in all different situations!
Great photos, Dave. Like I said before, I can see it on the bookshelf ..... "Photographing the Eastern Bluebird" by (aka) 2ndCousinDave. Could be a best seller !!!
Ansel Adams said, “A photograph is usually looked at - seldom looked into.” Your photos entice the viewer to look beyond the surface.
Ditto Linthicum. "Your photos entice the viewer to look beyond the surface."
Martha
Thank you all, very, very much.
Dave
I love the pictures of the bluebirds, they are so pretty!
I am new to the site, and I was very happy to see the birdwatching forum.
What kind of camera did you use to get such good close up?
I have 2 bluebird nesting boxes, and was wondering if anyone knows how high to
place them. I hope I can contribute some pictures to you all, we have a Blue Heron
that frequents our pond I hope I can catch on film. It is a blue bird but not a bluebird.
Well, thanks again for the forum.
shelly
Welcome to Daves and the Bird Watching forum Shelly!
The boxes should be placed about 5 ft. high.
