Nice pics Rose! I love Mockingbirds!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thank you Mrs. Ed...the sun came out briefly and luckily the stubborn Mocker would not be denied!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Pelle...they seem to show up wherever I am anymore! They aren't very shy so it gives me a chance to practice taking pics!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

This Carolina Wren has also discovered the meal worms! Sorry but there wasn't any sun!

Nice pics Rose! I remember how much my Carolina Wrens used to love the Mealy worms.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

dellrose - Beautiful pics! I've never seen a mockingbird or a Carolina Wren. There are some pileated woodpeckers in our area but haven't seen them lately. Eleanor

Brainerd, MN

Yesterday I found a redpoll at one of my feeders. New bird for me. Resin made the I.D.

From Dec. 4 StarTribune: Winter is the only time we're likely to see hoary redpolls in Minnesota. The birds sometimes drift down from breeding grounds that stretch from Alaska into Canada's high Arctic country.

At feeders

Their cousins, common redpolls, are more likely to visit feeders. (Thistle seed is a good lure.) Commons are expected to be more numerous this winter. They're among the finch species predicted to move south of their usual range because of thin seed crops in northern birches and conifers.

That's one sharp Blue Jay Charlie :-) Eagles keeping you busy?

Rose nice Mocker and Wrens girl!!

Great Quails Adlebertcat!

Sybil Thanks for the RP pics and info... Nice birds!

Great pics everyone!

Expecting some strong winds here today, so all the birds that are going to hang out here better be here soon or they will be stranded out there clinging to the branches...

Benton County, MO(Zone 5a)

Great pictures everyone! Rose, very nice! :-) I never see Mocking Birds here, and I have only seen one Carolina Wren last year.

No birds at the feeder this morning. :o

Benton County, MO(Zone 5a)

Spoke too soon. It is loaded with Finches and a Downy Woodpecker came and also this White Breasted Nuthatch.

I'm having problems this morning w/ no feeder birds and heres why.

I watched a fascinating chase in the air full of fast turns in every direction.

Of course the Coopers Hawk won and here he sits w/ his prize.

I'm not sure who the victim was, possibly a wren or finch.

Please excuse pic; sky is dark here.

Nice pic Al !

We're having alot of rain here now.

I used the old camera for these next pics. I've never seen any of the Woodpeckers take so quickly to a new feeder as to the new suet one.

Heres the female Downy Woodpecker checking out the new feeder thats to her left (out of pic). She came back 3 times in a row to look at it.

Fourth time was the charm as she hopped on and started to eat.

Was it the new feeder or the Homemade Suet?

Maybe both. :-)

Beautiful pictures of Goldfinches and the Hawk, too sad for the little fellow though, I didn't like it either when one got his lunch in my yard, and feast on it in the tree next to the patio. But I guess they have to eat too.

Al - I thing your bad weather is coming this way too. Rain sleet and snow tomorrow and turning back to really cold weather. I wonder how those poor birds, can live through all this. The crabapples are still full, and I know Robin eats them, when they come in Spring.

Wonderful pics everyone, very dull here today but I upped the EV and got some of what I know to be a Chaffinch, lol.

This is a male, a bit blurry but shows it fairly well.

It flew over to a popular perching branch high over the field.

Back over the road to have a preen, I got it through the gap in the Ivy.

Robin perched on a lower branch near me, the EV was far too high so it was washed out but it fixed up to a water colour painting.
