DAILY PICS VOL. 58

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Wow! Lots of gorgeous shots on the last thread!! Everyone has had great pictures to share over the weekend!

Gosh, it was definitely feeding time a few minutes ago, and you can tell that Spring is around the corner because they come to the feeders later and later every day.

So, to start off this thread, I thought I'd post a picture of a American Goldfinch starting to get his yellow back.

By the way, we left off here....

when I saw this picture on my computer after taking it, I immediately thought of Scutler's antics with the Tufted Titmouse. Doesn't this one have the same look?

And here he is trying to look angelic...

Thank Indiana for starting Vol 58. Those American finches are really, taking on more yellow. They'll probably be back here in March.

Nice pic of the Chickadee Pelle. Always love those birds.

Not yet secure enough to say he's a Hoary (Arctic)
But I know for sure he's a Redpoll

Just one second later, I got it about to land!

The Titmouse, don't come this far north. I only get to see them here.

Now Redpolls, I get a lot of them.

I saw well over 100 Redpolls just this morning, but I've never seen one as white as the one in your picture, 007. I'd wouldn't hesitate to call it a Hoary. They are common on the north side of the Alaska Range, but seldom seen on the south side of the mountains where I am.

This is a Pine Grosbeak I shot this morning. A few Grosbeaks were among dozens of Redpolls at a feeder.

She only posed on the fence in front of me, for a few seconds, but turned around to show the other side before leaving.

The male Grosbeaks weren't as cooperative. They would fly back into the trees when I approached, and wouldn't come down to eat, until I moved away.

Beautiful pics Gary!!!

Definite Arctic Redpoll, both the one on its own, and the left-hand bird in the second pic.

Worth getting these reported to your regional bird recorder:
http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/maryspt/BRC/NBBRC.html

Arctic Redpoll in NB: "very rare (not expected annually); documentation desirable"

Might also be worth putting the news out for other birders to see it (provided you don't mind being invaded by crowds of other birders!!!):

Gary, very good pictures. Your Pine Grosbeaks are quite different in colors, then the one we get here. What a difference. You and Resin have made my day, concerning the Hoary Redpoll. Thank you
Resin, I"ve downloaded the form for the NB- ID report. And will try to fill it out the best I can. Thanks for the links.

Love your Blue Jay pictures, Nanny! And how come you have Red Breasted Nuthatches, and I don't? I'm a bit jealous down here. ;)

Good morning everyone! These threads fly by so fast! :o I don't have any new birds to show either. I have had the same ones coming for awhile now. BUT, yesterday, for the first time, a Bald Eagle was soaring over the house! That was SO exciting to see, but unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me. sigh! I have been waiting for almost 3 years to see one of them come as far as my house and I get caught without a camera. But it was still awesome to see. :-)

Here's a flock of Goldfinches and some Purple Finches chowing down on the seeds this morning. it was cloudy and the pictures weren't all that great, but here is a couple. I do believe the GF's are getting a little more color, too.
