Eureka, CA

Great jobs!!! Gonna need a "visual" calendar or at least a spreadsheet to keep this all straight!

Dang I wish I lived closer to you all. I love Eureka; have lived here over 30 years. We're between 3 and 4 hours driving time from any activities like you have mentioned (Redding to the east, Santa Rosa to the south) and their climates are so different from mine. Well, maybe I'm just whining!

Thanks much for starting this thread ~ I hope you "up there" have the time to keep it updated as summer progresses!

Sanna

Kingston, WA

Hi Guys can't wait to have you all come and visit. I would suggest going to little and lewis later in the summer. They didn't want visitors in october last year because they have so many tropicals that many of them were brouhgt in. I think in april many of the things likt the bananas and cannas might still be sitting there. shoot for late may june july better. I know you are excited but I work right next door for 12 years and watch there garden and wouldn't want some of you to make a long trip for stumps of gooey bananas. Heidi

Port Orchard, WA(Zone 8a)

heidi, good advice, I agree, thanks, Jim

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Heidi- Thanks for the advice! No I really don't need to see gooey bananas! Do you think that the end of April is a good time for us to visit you or would May be better? I know most of us could spend an entire day in your nursery, yard and greenhouses drooling. You better hand out slober rags when we arrive!

I was thinking of getting mine done in February. I wonder if I could be ready by the 16. Or I could do March 2nd if there are people who are not planning to go to the Bellevue thing. I don't think I can do both the green elephant and the Bellevue Bot. garden sale in one weekend. The sale will be a zoo. Thoughts?
We'll likely be gone the second week in March. My son is going to D.C. with a group from his school, leaving Mike and I childless for a week. We're thinking warm and sunny...if we can swing it.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Pixy,
I say shoot for the 16th. The sooner we get it done the sooner you can start planting in it! I can help on the 16th. Just call and have a 15 yard dumptruck load of soil delivered and dumped as close as they can get it to the backyard. I recommend telling the company that you are working with a tight space and would appreciate a very "experienced" driver. I have found that to be very helpful, seems like when I don't say that they send the schmuck that just got his CDL and can barely shift the gears! There have been a few times I have almost told them to get out of the #%$%#$ cab and let me do it! I have two wheelbarrows I can bring also. Anyone heading up or down this way is welcome to crash at our house we have two extra bedrooms plus a futon and a hide-a-bed (we are 20 minutes South of Pix.) Rachel

Gig Harbor, WA(Zone 8b)

Rachel, are you an NPA member? I see you've posted a lot of things from the website. (I know Heidi is a member.)

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

OK - we need a spreadsheet with a calendar feature. I was sort of hoping it would snow so that I could stay home tomorrow from work.
(Sheesh! I sound like a 5th grader.)
By the way - did anyone get snow last night?

Kingston, WA

End of april or may is great with me. Perferably not motherday weekend because it is a zoo. Heidi

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

I can most likely make it to Pixy's garden on Feb 16th. That's much better for me than March. I just have to coordinate schedule with other family members. Will bring shovel, muck shoes, and rain gear if necessary (but you need to talk with your fairies or whomever about good weather conditions for the day). If everything falls in place on your end and mine, I'll d-mail to get directions. Will talk to family to make plans in the next day or so. It'll be fun to see your garden and wavy walls I've seen pictures of!

Eureka, CA

susybell, I was thinking about the Google calendar as well. Might be a great tool for this project if someone has the energy to keep it up.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

OK - busy day today, and not much more time to get it all done.
I, like Rach, prefer organization. So, I created a calendar & and transferred the info listed above, over to it.
Now I just have to go back in to tweak it - make information public, & ensure that the hyperlinks work, which weren't - rats...................

In any case, it's a work in progress & hope to get it all sorted out over the next few days.

Please - dmail me with any further info. Otherwise the potential for missing posted events is great. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, as well as tips to make this work more efficiently. I am not computer ignorant, but I ALWAYS welcome more expeditious ways to get things done. =:0)
And if you already know how to deal smartly with the Google calendar feature, please let me know so I can direct questions to you.
I see that everyone is raising their hands - LOL

Okay, the 16th is good for me! I checked with DH and it works for him. I don't know if he will be home or not, there may be a sailboat race. But I gave him the go-ahead to be absent if he wants to. He does NOT have a vision for this berm and landscaping idea. But fortunately, he trusts me. I get the idea that he is really not believing me when I say that the soil will get moved. Or maybe believing me, but holding out a bit of reserve so he won't be disappointed. He will see, as so often he has in the past. LOL!

Oh, GAD! Organization! Thank the Creator that there are people who can do that because I certainly am not one of them. One thing that will help me, and probably others, is for every project to have its own thread. I will start a thread for mine and then post the link here. That way, people can post that they are coming, what food they like to eat, what tools they can bring, etc.

One thought I had about the calender is that we must bear in mind that there are way more community events on it than any one person will actually go to. So even if there is an event one weekend, there may be several people who are available to come to a garden to help out. People shouldn't be afraid to ask about availability on a weekend that has a community event scheduled.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

I've got the go-ahead on the 16th!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

The 16th is on my calendar too!

Hurray!! I will start a thread for that particular project!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Not mine darn you missed it by a week. Oh well next time. Steve

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

More local events - nursery and garden classes and pruning demonstrations:

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/nwgardens/348442_garcal24.html

Darn, soferdig! I'm sorry you will miss it, too. But there will be another time! You'll have to let people know when you are going to be around.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I'll be there with Laurie !!!! in Rach's pocket, and whispering all the do's and dont's and encouragement all the way. Have fun.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I'll echo that, Steve. Let us know when you're in Seattle and have time for a cup of coffee. I'd love to come meet you.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I will be in Bellevue all next week from Monday to Saturday. I will dmail my phone number.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Oh good I saw your list for Feb 2nd. I'll have to do something there.

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

As a Google Fanatic I hate to say, that other users of the Google Calendar have to be Gmail users, too. I know how hard it is to not use the same email account, but Gmail caused me to leave Verizon, and I am so happy. So if you aren't a gmail user, well, its the best. No spam, and I mean No Spam at all. Google Calendar, Picasa Photo Sharing, web mail and home email that are identical. Sent mail is saved by Gmails webmail interface, and the stuff you get at home is saved in webmails archive.

I will get off my soapbox now.

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

Its changed. The Google Calendar is available to everyone that can be emailed. Being unemployed and a Google Fanatic I can set up the Calendar for us to share.

I will enter the posted stuff tomorrow, and send me a Dmail to tell me you want on the calendar list, and provide me your email address.

When the stuff is entered, and you all have responded, you should be getting an email from Google telling you the calendar is ready.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

AnDog - I set one up already with the dates/most info, but needed to tweak it. It has been a very busy week at work, so i had not finished yet.

Please Dmail me & I will provide the info so that you can have admin rights. No need to start over if you can pick up where I left off.
Also - I had contacted the administrators of DG, and was given permission by Terry to set this calendar in place. I believe that they will put a "sticky" on it to keep it continuous, but I think it needs its own thread just to make it easier for any DG'er to access/post pertinent info. Katye

Wow! You guys are so geeky! How cool is that?

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Katye and Analog thanks for putting a calendar together! It will be great!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

I'm going to jump in and take the plunge. Did our tax return today, I love Turbo Tax! Wahoo, I can buy more dirt! I'm going to have 15-20 yards of topsoil delivered and will need help spreading/moving it. I'm thinking Saturday, March 8th. I will post pictures of the "project" tomorrow. Rachel

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

running in circles shouting "woohoo! woohoo! woohoo!" aren't you?

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

I would love to come help you move dirt Rachel, but unfortunately March 8th is not possible for me as I'm going to a training session on teaching science. I guess we can't all come to every event :( But it sure is exciting that you can take on the creation of another garden bed! Your yard is fabulous already, but it will be even better! There is one consolation....I can join the virtual cheer-leading team in the bumblebee outfits for any work party I can't get to in person. Buzz team, buzz!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

You will make a great cheerleader! There will be plenty of other work parties I'm sure! Better start getting your bumblebee gear together!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

If I get my Vac. like I want, I'll be there.
Have we planed Heidis Yet ? thats a need to know, or was it said and I forgot to wright it down?

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

I don't think that we have set a date yet. Let me drop her a dmail and find out when a good one is. Stay tuned! Rachel

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm all tune in

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

I just got an dmail back from Heidi. How would April 26th work for a day in Kingston and a visit to DragonFly? Jim would that day work for you for those of us that want to visit your garden (and the little fairies in our pockets) as well? Any other suggestions?
