Apple tree limbs as plant supports

Hi all you talented ones,

I saved all my trimmings from my two apple trees and have 3 piles of different sizes. My thoughts are to make trellis' and supports for plants, what would be the best sting/ties to keep them together in the patterns I develop? Has anyone done this and if so do you have pictures?

I have a lot of landscape staples to attach them to the ground so I don't have to worry about them blowing away. I will use some as teepee style but also want to make a nice trellis with the thicker ones.
