Hi forever, The "yellow shafted" Northern Fickers have yellow under the tail.
Did yours have the spotting like the ones on this page?

DAILY PICS... VOL. 57
No, they are not spotted beautifully like the one on that link. They look like the Red bellied. I will get a closer look next time and check. I have a female that comes around alot. The male has not come around lately. I also have 3 Downeys that visit. One of them looks to be very old. His feathers are dulling it seems. One day I think he fell asleep like an old man on the tree and just hung on. It was odd. Poor ole' guy. Other neat ones I get are Nuthatches and Carolina Wrens. I had 35 birds this morning chowin down! thanks for the info Pelletory! My next goal is to get more roosting pockets or do something with the ghords I have.....
A few shots of snowy owls I took today on a field trip organized by Bird Protection Quebec

Indiana lily...I have the same problem with those Starlings!
Beautiful pic today everyone I have been out and about and have enjoyed sitting down and looking at all your visitors today!
I shot this from a distance because it looked "different"! It was flying around with a Northern Mockingbird, sorry the pic is so small but had to crop big time. This is a Northern Flicker.
Rose
Very good Rose!
Thanks Pelle, the only times I've seen a Flicker was in flight or high in a tree. I didn't realize they would land on a fence or peck on the ground. It is interesting all the little traits you see when you open your eyes and look!!
Hi Rose, As told on the Cornell sight here under "Cool Facts" they prefer to eat on the ground.

Just now catching up.

Panamom: How wonderful to see Snowy Owls. They are amazing.
Dellrose - I know, those darn twigs! I have one of those twig shots from yesterday.
Deb
May I ask a question?
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a window feeder that is a flat/tray style, that attaches somehow to the window sash? All I can find are the suction cup kind, which are usually much smaller and tend to fall off from time to time. If anyone has seen what I'm talking about, would you let me know where?
Thanks!
DebinSC
Debin, if you find out about such a feeder, let me know. We're moving soon and I'd love to have a window feeder for the window in my kitchen!
Nice pics guys!
Debin I haven't seen anything like that but I'll keep an eye out for it.
Maybe one of the creative Husbands of members here could think of something like that. :-)
BTW I added links for Suet Recipes on the Sticky.
I love your Junco, Pelle. :)
If it maks you feel any better Rose, I've got a Goldfinch twig shot too.
I think a while back I mentioned that I'm actually afraid of birds, but seeing the pictures of people handfeeding them makes me want to try. Well, I was just outside checking the damage the Starlings did, and my White Breasted Nutchatch started making his call from the tree. Well, here's my chance!! I grabbed some food out of the feeder and held it out to Mr. WBN. Hey, looks like it may work because he kept coming closer and closer. Cool! My daughter is at the window, poised with the camera. Then, when he got pretty close, about 1 1/2 feet away, I got a bit frightened and thought, "what the heck am I doing?" Whew, he flew up higher in the tree. Ok, maybe next time I'll be ready to hand feed him.
