DAILY PICS, VOL. #55

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

I was told it was time to start a new daily pics. Let's start with a pine warbler.

A couple of collared doves finally returned after an absence of two months. I never noticed before that their heads and necks are paler than the rest of their bodies.

The mourning doves have been here every day.

There are lots of Dark-eyed Juncos.

The Brown-headed Nuthatches are always entertaining.

I was so glad that the American Goldfinches started coming to my feeders a few days ago.

Wallaby: Great shot of your Thrush. Looks very much like its cousin over here, the Brown Thrasher.
Nanny: Cute lil Nuthatch. I'd think he's "bowing".
Frank: I do love Juncos. I've yet to get one to stand still close enough for a good shot. Our Goldfinches just showed up a couple of weeks ago here.

Thanks to the person that mentioned that some of the songbirds like sugar water. I put out the hummer feeder, sans cover, and today both the Black-capped and Mountain Chickadee's took advantage.

Chickadees taking sugar is quite normal - I've often seen our related Blue Tits taking nectar from flowers. Mahonia (Oregon-grape) is a particularly popular nectar source for them.

Love all the pictures - especially the morning dove. Beautiful shot. Here's one of the goldfinches -- wish they would stay around.

mrw..good shot of the goldfinches flying.

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

I have Oregon Grape all over my property, and I never saw a bird at it, but I don't doubt you. I have a terrible time when it's in bloom, as I'm very allergic. Gosh, I've not even seen a bird at the fruit. That's odd.

Here's a junco.

mrw31- very interesting shot. great shot.

Tigerlilly..I don't think the cover comes off my hummingbird feeders.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

That is an awesome shot, MRW31! I especially like the expression of the Goldfinch in the lower left-hand corner.

Very nice pictures, Frank and Tigerlily! I do like the brown-headed nuthatch, Frank, very nice.

Here's another water bird shot from the park.

I have had woodpeckers at my hummer feeder at the camp ground. Probably trying to get some ants. Our Juncos are all dark gray on the topside. Here is one. BEV

Frank, you could set out a saucer or small bowl perhaps. I know my setup won't be practical in warmer months. We have lots of yellowjackets here.

Beautiful shots folks! I wish we had the Brown-headed Nuthatch here. We've got the Pygmy, but I've yet to see one. I have the Red-breasted all day long at the peanut pieces, and the White-breasted is starting to spend the mornings in an Incense Cedar only about 15-20 feet from the feeder area. Perhaps they'll discover the peanuts soon.

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

dragonfly.. was that a Eurasian Tree Sparrow in the pic with the junco? I have never seen one here.

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

mrw..Is that a pic of an Ibis?

Metairie, LA

I'm not sure -- here's a closeup of the picture. This was taken at a nearby park where there is a "swamp" and a bird colony - lots of egrets and other birds are attracted to the park.

WOW, You guys have really been busy!

Great shots Everyone!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Yes that is a tree sparrow and we have thousands of them. A pair will have 23 babies each summer so I will box a bunch up and send them to you if you want. LOL BEV
