My DH's family used to grow Mc Curdy 57 corn. He does not think it is still available, but would love to find it if it is out there. Does anyone know if it is still available?
Does Mc Curdy 57 corn still exist?
I t is a new name for me. Most probably a product of the McCurdy Seed Company of Fremont Iowa. Don't know if they are still in business, but they once developed quite an array of hybrid field corn.
Thanks Famerdill. Maybe some others will know if it is still around. My DH says it was a hybrid variety, so I imagine it died out with the seed company if it went under. I wonder why they don't sell a popular variety when they go belly up or just plain quit the business? Maybe you know the answer to that.
McCurdy was absorbed into Mycogen which in turn was absorbed by DOw Elanco and is now a part of DowAgrosciences. They still develop corn but seem to be focusing on ethanol ready cultivars at the moment. http://www.dowagro.com/mycogen/index.htm
