Nice series of pics Deb! Love the Waxwings and I have been watching for them on the cedars that still have berries. I love that shot with the Sparrow on the wing of the bluebird. Too cute! I bet those birds love that spa you have set up for them...wish I had something like that.
Tigerlily ~ thanks for the info on the new book, I just ordered it from Overstock.com for $15.84, including shipping...can't have too many good I.D. books :-)
While at the coast a few days ago, I noticed this odd gull. See anything unusual?
Glaucous-winged Gull.
I remember a Mediterranean Gull over here a few years ago, which got by for several years with just one leg and a stump almost exactly the same. It got nicknamed 'Monopod'. They can cope amazingly well. Yours is a full adult on plumage, so probably at least 4 years old.
This sort of thing can happen (a) when feeding on rubbish tips if they get a foot stuck in a can (so always bash the lids out so they can't trap birds' feet!) or (b) at sea, sometimes they'll lose a foot getting bitten off by a large fish (nothing you can do about this!!). Maybe other causes too, I'd suspect those are not the only causes.

I was going to ask if it was the same as ours, but you have already replied broncbuster.
Funnily there was one of ours featured on our local news tonight, people send in their pics.

The US Sparrow Hawk (now American Kestrel) is a falcon
European Sparrow Hawk is an accipiter as are our Cooper's, Sharp-shinned and Goshawk
Thanks Bronc and Ned.
Its listed at Cornell and in all my field Guides as American Kestrel.
LOL, I promise I won't have to ask you again if you could try call it by that name. :-)
Thanks again!
Nice pic of the Little Blue Heron bronc!
Lovely Bunch-O-Ducks Mrs. Ed.:-)
