I have learned a lot by having these babies!!!

They are doing well... growing ... and I think they are happy... well, they know my voice, they know the hand that feeds them!!!!!

Kassia, the turtles are lovely, and they look very healthy, you have done a good job!

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Thanks Melvatoo , seems everyone agrees for ID. TCS - How huge would you say the snapper got? And what was your experience with it?

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

i picked the darned thing up when it got into the street.... i'd say the shell was a good 10-12" across and 20 or so head to tail ... and probably a good 25-30#

he was none to pleased gettting picked up... he was snappin away at me.

but... seems he was on a mission, as when i put him back down the hill by the detention pond.... not 30 min later, he crossed the street again, and was cruising down the side walk....

hang on... i have a pic.

Kassia, it looks like you've got a full-time job on your hands! But it pays well- they are soooo cute, I'm squealing at every picture. You're doing a great job!!!
Um, I think turtles live a long time... I guess that's a blessing and a curse!

Some years ago my mother came into the house, quite distressed, she had run over a big turtle, with the car...(she didn't mean to!) she asked me to go and check on it, so I did...and I looked all around, and could not see a turtle....when I looked toward the pond, I could see the grass moving, so I went to investigate. When I got fairly close, the turtle turned around, and hissed at me, it was a Snapping Turtle, a Big one! I had just read, how they could move fast, when on land, so I began to back pedal, (who knew I could move that fast!)it was large enough the car had not hurt it, at all....I didn't pick it up, but it must have been a 50#er....

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

You guys have seen the big ones for sure. I had heard that they hiss when threaten.
Tcs - do you mind, if I send your pictures, and what you said to my sister, so she can see, how big they get? She would be very interested?
Kassia, your babies are precious, and have grown quite a bit. Your certainly doing a great job. I went and checked that site you talked about very interesting place to learn how to care for them.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

be my guest!! this one was quite big... and i've seen them before, as a child ... from what i understand our "Salt Creek" has always had them... but i have no idea how the ole boy [possibly a girl] got this far from the creek.

Thanks tcs,
