Nice pics Marilyn.

Very nice Marilyn...I am envious of the woods you have so close by! All we have are pasture (of course I've probably complain if they hung me with a new rope)! LOL!

Thanks Pelle!

Thanks Rose! We love the wooded area next to us (been here for over 10 and a half yrs.), but that area and two lots next to it will be over 100 homes sometime. :-(

Marilyn

Could you please tell me what RBW stands for? I figured out what TT and GFstand for. Also can you tell me if this is a pillied (sp) woodpecker. I identifed the downy and someone at work told me this one is a pillied although he did not see a picture of it.

Thanks
Betty

Sorry Pelle. I just figured out you were answering my question about the bird with the cardinal. I am so dense sometimes. Thanks for the answer.

I sent you some D mail Betty. :-)

Betty,

Nice pics! Really like the Towhee pic!

Sorry, that I didn't completely spell out the Bird names, I sometimes do, just for people like you. ;-)

Thanks Pelle for letting Betty know.

Sorry about that! The Titmouse in the tree got covered up by the Daves Garden writing. So I'm posting another pic of the same one. Hope it works out this time.

edited to say that the second Titmouse is showing and he's just below the word 'use' in the writing.

Betty,

That is a Reb Bellied Woodpecker on your feeder. And the correct spelling for the one that your friend thought it was is Pileated and it is twice the size of the RBW. Not that I have ever seen either :( that's just what my Audubon book says. :) I'm fairly new, too.

Great pics Marilyn & everyone

Thank Shan! And thanks for making things clearer for Betty!

Marylyn, are you taking your pics through the window, too? My pics through the window are not so cute as yours--too dull looking...You have so many birdy visitors!

tortoise--FYI here's the Cornell write up on the Pileated Woodpecker

http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide/Pileated_Woodpecker.html

and a write up for your Red-bellied Woodpecker--he's very cute, by the way! Interesting that it's called 'Red-bellied' since it doesn't seem to have a 'red belly' but if you look at them closely there are some faint red feathers on the belly of most of them...oh, well...

http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide/Red-bellied_Woodpecker.html

The 'Red-headed' woodpecker is another bird altogether and is becoming rarer...most often found around large oaks and farmers corn fields, I think...we never see them here anymore. Killed off from habitat disappearance.

Tabasco thanks for the links they were very helpful.

Tabasco,

For the last few weeks, I've been taking pics through an opened window (on my knees taking them, until my knees get too achy and/or stiff, then I take a break and try to go back to it). Last week, I took some while I was outside. My photos don't come out looking good thru the window, so I've been avoiding it when it's been, like today was, a raw, cold and damp day. That kind of day would mostly be a 'good' weather day for catching the birds in pics.

Even if it's been a little chilly, I've been trying to take the photos without the glass, but the birds sometime fly away as I try to move the camera from one feeder to another. ;-)

Marilyn
