Pelle, that's Uno. He's a Timneh Grey. He got his name because he was the first baby his parents had and the first one I hand raised. He hatched April 16, 1993.

Wow, everyone, wonderful pictures!

Marilynbeth, which camera did you get?

Adelbertcat-what is that last photo you posted (the 11:33 one)?

I'd not seen my Red-breasted Sapsuckers for several weeks, since it had gotten so cold. I knew the sap wouldn't be running in the apple trees as when it was warmer, and wondered, other than insects, what they might eat in winter. On Christmas I found that they eat fruit. This one was dining on the apples left high in the tree.

DMurray, I'm going to answer your question to Adelbertcat. I'm pretty sure that's an Emu chick. It looks like the ones that live about a mile from me.

It was also the first time I'd seen one hanging upside down.

Sorry about bad photos..........you all know about grey days and bad lighting.

Congratulations Peeper; Uno is beautiful!

I love the African parrots!

Nice pic tiger! Glad your Sapsuckers are back!

Perhaps this Mountain Dee is also frustrated by the cold temperatures?

Black Vultures taking a break and sunning themselves ............ a photo in black and white best reflects their sinister reputation. I came across a large flock yesterday, up-close and personal while birding for Bald Eagles.

Spreading their wings in sunlight, the black feathers soak up the sun's heat, warming the bird.

Black vultures are monogamous and mate for life. A mate is replaced only after the death of one individual. Both parents incubate eggs using a system of 24 hour shifts and parents feed their young up to eight months after fledging (Buckley, 1999).

Hey Swampfire,

Check out my thread from a few weeks ago. I got a White Breasted Nuthatch, but Lilypon got a Red Breasted Nuthatch. I was at an Audubon Sanctuary, but I believe Lily was at home.
