Daily Pics Volumn 46

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

After several days of yucky bad picture taking weather we finally got a few minutes where I could even get the catchlight in the eyes. Here's a delightful little Black-capped Chickadee.

A bad photo, but interesting I thought. This is a Dee leaving the double decker screened feeder the grandkids gave me for Christmas. I put it out this morning, and had visitors in just a couple minutes.

Wow, it was blazing fast, another new thread. Great Dee pic TL.

Resin, hope you see this. So I'm not addled and they do look just alike. Very good to know.

Bsharf, looks like you had a great bird watching day. FL is an ideal bird watching state!

Gardenpom, great hawk pic. They move so fast and you got such a great pose.

Adel, love those jays.

This year I have more of the Moutain Chickadee's than the Black-capped, after not seeing them at all for several years. I should have discovered my back yard much sooner than I did.

This year I have more of the Mountain Chickadee's than the Black-capped, after not seeing them at all for several years. I should have discovered my back yard much sooner than I did.

Whoops! SORRY!. I went back to fix the typo, but doubled up.

Besides their looks how is the behavior compared to the Black-capped tiger?

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

The Mtn. Dee will spend more time at the feeding area before taking flight. Often they'll grab a BOSS and go to the nearest branch to crack it. I can take several pics of them generally in one spot, while the Black-capped allows but one at a time.

I sure hope the Chestnut-backed shows up again this season. I'm keeping a watchful eye where they fed last January.

Neighbors call Junco's the Snowbirds, 'cause we only have them in winter.

I really enjoy the Spotted Towhee, and am fortunate to have them year round.

We only have Juncos around during the winter months, too. I can't believe any living creature actually migrates south to MN for the winter! Sometimes they keep going a little further south during the coldest weather but they are always here in early winter and very early spring. They seem to be sticking around so far this year-it hasn't been super cold yet, though.

We only have them for winter too. So where the heck do they go for summer!!

Linth, Great pics of the GF, MDoves and BJ!

Nanny, here's a link where the Junco's go for the Summer. Some lucky bird watchers get them year round in the U. S., but mostly, they go North to Canada and Alaska.

This little cactus wren really likes peanuts. It took one, ran off and ate it, and then kept coming back for more of them.

Thank Resin, From what you told me on the ID tread, I went back to check, and thought that one might have been the one you talk about, before I seen this post. Thanks again for ID and for what to look for, on the other Thread.

Lawrenceville, GA

for those wondering where the juncos are... they're in my backyard... GOBS of 'em... I love watching them hop around on the ground, cleaning up what the other birds are too snooty to eat.

Palatine, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow...this is for the birds!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't it great to see some that you've never seen in your area before. They say these red breasted nut hatches have not been in our area since 1985. I'm lucky enough to still have them here eveyday! Gonna work on getting them to eat peanuts out of my hand.
There was an article in the local paper that someone in the area was able too. They are not afraid and very friendly. Has anyone been successful?

Mrs Ed that's really neat with the frost crystals and birds.
Heyitmejudy. One lost it's way to your place. I see him in the back of my yard, but quickly vanishes in the cedars edge. Hopefully, he'll be brave enough to stick around. This was one of his brave moment.
Nice pictures everyone.

Just went home for lunch. Am being swarmed by those stinkin' cowbirds again. But on the upside, I also have a lot of bluebirds now that the leaves are all gone and the backyard is opened up...
