The Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge CBC was held Monday, Dec 17th. We tallied 162 species including a Short-tailed Hawk (first time on our count-40 years). The Short-tailed is fairly common in S. Florida but not up here. Last year, the Refuge had 167 species and tied for highest in Florida with one other group.
The Cocoa count (Space Coast Audubon) had 167 species on Saturday, the 15th.....this one's been going on for almost 60 years. Many years ago the Cocoa count was the highest in the US several times.
Any other count totals yet?
