Lowell, MA(Zone 6a)

Good morning bird watching forum, i have a big concern today. As some may know we are getting a lot of snow today in NE , i just looked out my window to see some birds in the branches in the back yard. How do i feed them ??? I know they must be hungry after all this snow. The back yard is like 2 feet deep in snow.
Thank you in advance, i am new to this, but love feeding the birdies. I guess these stayed behind since i always feed them, but i got caught up now with all this snow.

Marlton, NJ

Hi Dulci, Besides having food in your bird feeders you can also throw seeds out on the ground on top of the snow.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Great pics everybody! Love your TM pic debilu!

Marilyn.. Tell me about your birdbath heater... (if that is what I saw there in the last thread). Where'd you get that? How much?

Indiana-Your pics are great and I love the shades of grey in Mockingbird pic.

Nanny-I think your birds are posing for you. Your pics are great too!

Thanks pelletory ... great link, should help me to ID the birds hanging around my yard.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I have this not good photo but it does show it's tail fanned. I cropped it so maybe that will help. He is a lot bigger than our sharpie we have seen before!

WOW!!! Thanks Pelle & Resin!! I just saw him again out front. We have lots around but they are always just soaring above, never land.

Goldsboro, NC(Zone 7b)

I'm pretty new to the whole bird watching hobby. Although I've always loved feeding the birds in my neighborhood, I've never been really successful at identifying them.

I saw this pretty boy just an hour ago though...a male cardinal, that much I know.

Welcome MrsKinsey!!

Nice pic!

Here's the same little guy. I think he knows I'm taking his picture.

Thanks, pelletory. It has been unseasonably warm here so I think that is why I've seen so many birds at my feeders. Or perhaps it is the drought here as another poster mentioned. I haven't seen too many cardinals lately though, so this was a treat for me. :)

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Indiana; Send me a Mockingbird, I have Starlings that need to be kept in check. In 3 days , they had eaten a big batch of suet I had made. I don't get to see my WP anymore. Thanks for the comment on the Pine Grosbeak. Your shots are very good. I love the one with the ground feeding WP.
Love those Cardinals too.
DMurray ,Good shot of that Blue Jay eating the peanut.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Tell ya what, Burn, I'll give you all the mockingbirds you could ever want in exchange for your pine grosbeaks. :) Thanks for the compliment! It's frustrating to see the Starlings take over everything, isn't it? I don't know how many times I have tried to chase them off!!

Meanwhile, Mr. Chickadee standing by, waiting for his turn at the nuttybar....

Great pics everyone!

Debnes,

Got this heater (and the last one) at Duncraft. It's the......
Premium Blue Devil Birdbath Heater
http://www.duncraft.com/Premium-Blue-Devil-Birdbath-Heater-P735C15.aspx

The last one we used was from Duncraft also. We've been using a water heater in the Winter for so long, that the previous one just died. We like the fact that it "prevents water from freezing at temperatures as low as -40 degrees". "Auto shut-off at 40-50 degrees". "4-Year Manufacturer's Warranty".

I found you a Blue Devil a little cheaper at
http://www.littlechickadee.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Nelson-30204

I haven't ordered from these people yet.

The birds really like that they have water all Winter! We've seen Downys, Dee's, GF's, HF's all get a drink of water. Sometimes during the cold months when the temp. is a little mild, we'll see birds splashing around in the bird bath.

We use a orange outdoor cord connected to the outlet and the bird heater cord. The bird bath we use for the heater is on the patio.

Rose,

Great shots of the RBW and of the RBW and the Downy! I see them! ;-)

Burn,

LOL regarding the Starlings! We had tons of them this weekend, being pigs!

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

Another new bird for my life list! We visited a friend yesterday and several of these little birds were feeding along with the kinglets. Odd that the Coastal Bushtit is so different than this little female Interior Bushtit.
