Preparing beds for Winter

Pioneer, CA

I have turned over all my beds and covered them with horse manure. I read that it's not a good idea to leave the manure on top of the soil because the nutrients will leach out, last year I covered them with straw and I really don't want to do that again if I don't have to. I dug some rock phosphate and compost into the soil, then added the manure--- your advise would be much appreciated.

It shouldn't be a problem, dguimo. You might consider some type of cover crop, it will help to protect the amendments you've added and the soil itself. Google for more info and dmail me if I can help you further. You're gonna have good planting area come spring!
