S video Connection Laptop to TV

I was given a 25' S video connection cable to connect my notebook to our HDTV. I plug them in and get nothing. What am I supposed to be doing that I am not? I have a Panasonic HDTV and HP notebook computer. Do I need a special program? How do I find the setting I need on the TV? I use one of those Logitech HArmony 800 remotes that I programed myself and perhaps need to do something to install the notebook??????
Any assistance appreciated.
