Heard this bird, then saw it sitting on a neighbors telephone pole. It was still dark out, so I had to use a few enhancing techniques to get this good an image. My first thought was Caracara, but the color seems wrong.

Looks like a Red-shouldered Hawk. They're pretty noisy and are very common where you live.
It's an Accipiter hawk - Sharp-shinned or Cooper's, most likely Cooper's from its size relative to the pole.

Looked at the replay and "after further review" (maybe too much TV football?), I'm gonna go with Resin: Cooper's Hawk

Thanks, I knew it was not a red-shouldered because I have seen them many times, and this one was a LOT larger.

Your neighbors sure must have an unusual high voltage telephone! Because, large heavy duty insulators like the ones in the picture are only used on high voltage electric lines. Telephones are normally low voltage.
These are all telephone poles to most of us, even though more accurately they are high power electric company poles! Habits are hard to break.
