cannas and pansies?

Dallas, GA(Zone 7b)

Hi. -
After our first frost, I cut down the cannas that will be overwintering in large containers outside. Now I'm thinking about adding some pansies for winter color. Of course I'll be watering the pansies -- will that be a problem for the dormant cannas? I don't want them to rot.
thanks for any advice -

You might try posting this on your regional forum as well. I would have thoguht canna would need ot be inthe ground in your zone so i'm no help lol

Actually I have had cannas overwinter in largge containers before, so I'm not too concerned about it from a temperature perspetive. My concern is whether the dormant canna rhizomes might rot if the container gets watered for the pansies.

I'll post in the GA forum, if you think that makes more sense. Thanks!

I think you might find gardeners that have tried it before on the other forum that don't frequent this one.

It's surprising what canna will take though isn't it? if you don't get any replies one way or the other.....maybe you could experiment (not with a canna you don't have multiples of, of course) and let us know what you learn?

thanks - I have just moved this to the GA forum.
