An article I wrote in March 2007 for Carolina Country magazine: http://www.carolinacountry.com/cgardens/thismonth/march07guide/StrawBales3.07.pdf
The same article in pdf format: http://www.carolinacountry.com/cgardens/thismonth/march07guide/StrawBales3.07.pdf
The info in this article is geared for those using any type of STRAW bale, such as wheat or oat straw.
Hay and grass bales are a little different since they have a natural nitrogen content, but work just as well.
Now that we have a Bale Garden forum, there are now many other threads on this topic, plus you can always start one on your own.
There have been some great discussions from the beginning and everyone has come forward with alot of good ideas and information.
For those who want to review all of our discussions prior to the new forum being added, here are the links:

Part 17: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/785218/ - was added after the new forum, but we've kind of stuck with this system for general type questions and banter back and forth as you can see
Hopefully this will help similar to a "sticky" and I/we can always "bump" it to the top if needed.

Strawbale Gardening - Introduction and Basic Instructions
Anyone with experience or knowledge about gardening in leaves with a little soil on top?
Sooner or later I'll stop asking questions and do something! Hahaha!
Bill
Bill, no experience with leaves. Sorry.
