I was wondering if anyone knows how to get seeds from the cones on eastern pine tree's? I have three pine tree's in my yard and they have cones on them. Can you get seeds from them to plant new trees?

GETTING SEEDS
Hi Susie' The answer is yes' I collected pine cones from everywhere in the USA and Canada for many years' I simply, let the cones dry completely first'
After they are dry, pull the outside(don't know the proper name) pieces apart and harvest the seeds'
The tips of the cones are sharp and will prick your fingers' I use tweezers to get the seeds out' Hope this helps'
Thank-you Sis for your reply does this have to be done at a certain time of year? ex:fall?
After the cones fall from the trees' Fall/winter,yes'
Harvest anytime the cones are dry'Have heard of some burying the whole cone, with good results'
PS..
I found some very tiny pine cones in New Jersey and used them to decorate wreaths also' You're very welcome, glad to help, and good luck''See ya,Sis'
