Reviving a chickadee

Van Etten, NY(Zone 5a)

I posted this to the Photos forum last night and someone suggested that you guys would like to see it. Here is a Disney-like story that happened at the end of the day yesterday as the temperature was dropping. A little black capped chickadee flew into our back window and fell down stunned. DH picked him up and kept him warm in his hand.

As the bird became more alert, he opened his hand.

He just sate there for a while.

Finally, he flew to a very low branch nearby.

He sat for a while and then took off to a much higher branch. Shortly thereafter, he flew away.

bebop,

Thanks for sharing that wonderful story and your wonderful photos! So happy he was ok. DH and I always think the Chick A Dees are little bundles of energy! They're so adorable and beautiful too! We just love them and love having them around all the time!

That is so sweet. I had the almost the exact same thing happen - except with a junco... When he bacame more alert, I put him onto a low branch. He sat there for probably 30 minutes, then flew away. I didn't think to get the camera. Duh. Thanks for the great photos and story. Makes me smile.

What a great experience Bebop!

Has anyone read the book "Providence of a Sparrow..... Lessons of a life gone to the Birds" by Chris Chester. I am nearing the end now. A true story about a two day old sparrow that fell into the authors garden and changed his life. Great read... very funny at times.

I love those type of stories; I'll have to keep an eye out for that one.
