question on dutch iris foliage

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7b)

I have never planted dutch iris before (or much of anything else for that matter) and I'm wondering if the foliage dies back after bloom like daffodils or tulips, or if it stays green. I have purchased some bulbs, and I'm trying to figure out if I should plant them under some other perennials or on their own.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

There are different types of Iris and some folks find it confusing, iris from bulbs, that is a bulb (round and rootless when you buy them) no foliage, these need planted in the soil 3 times as deep as the size of the bulb from the tip to root, so if your bulb is an inch tall, then you plant it 3 inches deep into the soil, they will bloom once and then the foliage will die back, once it has gone brown, you can remove the foliage as it has fed the bulb for flowering next year.
Iris that has a tuber with roots and some foliage when you buy them need to be planted with the tuber JUST below the soil surface so that in the summer, the sun bakes down onto the tuber, this is called ripening the tuber to help with flowering, the foliage will not die back completely, but a few leaves will turn brown, you will need to cut this foliage as it is quite ropey, but if you are in a windy area, sometimes it is best to cut the foliage of the tuberous iris by half so the wind dont rock the shallow planted tubers as this will cause the roots to become loose from the soil. hope this helps you a bit. The Dutch iris that I bought are supposed to bloom in mid-May. They are just little round bulbs like little onions. Does that mean the foliage would be gone by July or so?

I'm thinking of pairing the Dutch iris with some Belgian mums, but if there will still be iris foliage in late summer when the mums get started, I think that would look kind of tacky. Otherwise, it seems like it might be a good combo.

Anyone else tried this?

The foliage here usually fades by mid-june. Blooms are mid may to june in duration.
