And this one is the most disgusting. It undulates.

This one doesn't look like a grub or a millipede. Caterpillar? Hmmm....

Where was it found?

Looks like some type of bot fly larvae. Have you used horse manure on your garden lately?

Ooh, I think you're onto something. Maybe crane fly larvae? http://bugguide.net/node/view/92225
or http://bugguide.net/node/view/82833 or http://bugguide.net/node/view/12436

Do they have prolegs (three pairs of legs near their heads)? If so, that rules out fly larvae....

Thanks! Still not sure of what I have, but next time I dig, I'll try to get a better picture. I have not used manure in years, although, sitting up way in my yard in black plastic bags are 30 bags of collected manure for next spring. I found all 3 specimens in the dirt when turning over soil. Assuming they are not beneficial, is there anything I can do to kill the ones I do not find?

I have something that looks simular to that in my worm bin. Its so gross. Doesn't seem to hurt anything but disgusting. I don't put anything in my worms but fruits, vegatables, newspapers, coffee grounds ect. I would also like to know what to do about them. The worms don't seem to care.lol

One of our Master Gardeners brought in some larvae she found in her worm bin, and I looked them up. Hers were a particular syrphid fly larvae called rat tailed maggots. Is that what you have, Linda?

Well, that was interesting. Still haven't done any more digging to find more but found it very interesting that occasionally we get roof rat visitors. They are dead now. And the caddis fly. Well, we fish the artificial ones in Alaska and parts of Northern CA. Morphed into the real ones? Now that's scary for Halloween!

The ones in my worm bid look more like Leptotarsus testaceus. They are big, about an inch long. Funny I don't see alot of flys around. I will try and take a picture when I get home tonight if its still light. They are so gross. I feed them to the fish in the pond and they seem to like them ok. lol
