morning glory vines, chop first?

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

Hello, I am going to have piles of morning glory vines to compost. Should these be cut up into pieces first? And if so, how? I don't think our little push mower is up to the job. I have little hand strength, so any good suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

Smaller is always best. A weed wacker works well on some stuff, as long as the stems aren't too thick.

yes, better cut. and they may be full of seeds....are they a kind you don't mind volunteers?

i find some viny things like that get all hung up on your tools when you try to work with the pile.

I use a lawn mower quite a bit to chop up pieces for the compost pile.

Heard of someone doing that with their paper once - ugh! Must've been picking it up for years after that....

Haha! No paper for me though. Just twiggy type refuse for the compost pile.
