Atlanta-area Water Shortage

Caneyville, KY(Zone 6b)

We've discussed a less serious possible scenario on other threads recently. Atlanta and surrounding areas are in serious trouble, according to the news, regarding running out of fresh drinking water in about a year's time. The drought this past year has their main water supply drying up. It was reported that the only thing that could really help the people in that area is if a very slow moving hurricane set right over the city and dumped a lot of rain. They are no longer allowed to do any outdoor watering, no filling swimming pools, etc.

On previous discussions, we discussed filling our pools, having streams or ponds available, and installing rain barrels. If those are no longer options, what would you do now? Rain barrels are still a possibility, but if there is no rain, they wouldn't be on any use. Start stocking up on jugs of bottled water?

We have a 3 season spring on our place, but the last couple of years, it has slowed considerable. The pond it flows into is down about 5 feet. We could be in the same position in Kentucky.

Something to think about.
