I just bought a western redbud to plant between my yard and the neighbor. Now I have read that redbud is susceptible to crown rot if watered at the soil level. Since my neighbors water their lawn, the tree will be exposed to water at the crown. Should I find a different place for the tree or is there someway to protect the trunk(s) at the base? And will my neighbors 1-2 x's weekly watering be too much for the tree? I live in the San Gabriel valley near the Los Angeles basin. The plants I have near that area require water 1-2 x's a month in the summer and have not been adversely affected.
Western Redbud - watering question
I doubt if you'll have a problem. as long as you have good drainage.
