I saw cocao husks at green thumb today.
They smell like chocolate.
I was thinking it would be cool to top my indoor plants with them. The bag says use it as a toping /mulch for gardens and container plants.
Does the smell attract bees, flies,or ants?
If they are like raw chocolate in taste I'd think they are bitter tasting so hopefully they won't attract bugs-but they sure smell good.
I use fish fertilizer and it smells for an hour or so after I put it in my indoor pepper containers once a month or less.
Chocolate would be much better.
You could smell those bags of chocolate a long ways away at the nursery.
How long do they smell that good and will they break down into something my plants might not like?
I've read that people use it in compost but haven't seen anything about topping indoor plants yet.
What do you think?
Cacao husks for indoor plants
The only thing about using chocolate for mulch that I have read/heard is that is quite attractive to dogs. Not available here so have never used it.
Donna
And, to follow up on Donna's comments - probably not good for dogs. Chocolate is toxic to them, although I'm not sure if it's the cacao or something else in it. But if you have dogs, I'd probably avoid it.
Otherwise, if it's attractive enough, I can't see why not...?
