Hello -- I'm hoping someone here can advise me. I had a partial bag of dehydrated cow manure left over from a weekend project. Night before last my husband had dragged it, with the bag torn wide open, into the garage when storms were threatening. I didn't want to waste it, so just now I dragged it out and emptied it onto an existing perennial bed, thinking I'd spread it out there. But the smell of ammonia was overpowering. It had no odor to speak of at all a couple of days ago. Is it safe to use? I've just left it piled up. Thanks very much!
dehydrated cow manure, ammonia smell
the ammonia would add nitrogen.
Spread it on a cool day, and wear a mask when you do it.
Thanks to you both. I left it mounded on the ground for a couple of days and the ammonia smell was finally gone today, so I spread it out.
