Monty Byers irises

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I am trying to help out with a very notable project to help someone who wants to update and revive Monty Byers lines. I have been asked by a friend to see if anyone here can send a couple to him to help him with this. He is a relative of Monty Byers and is very interested in receiving as many of these irises that he can. He's been going through some tough times and I really hope that I can help. I think I have 3 that I may be able to donate but am hoping Dave's iris lovers can help out with a few too. Thanks so much in advance.

Maybe this will help people who are not sure which named varieties are Monty Byer's irises.

Hi Louise,
By any chance.........Do you know which ones he needs or which ones he may already have?

Hello sweet Margie, thanks for that list.
I don't think he has any of Byers irises but wants to get as many as he can. I have a couple that I hope I have enough of to share with him.
Thanks again, that list really helped me see how many I have.

Hi-

I can help with some next year but at this time of year I really don't want to dig and disturb the plants. We are still having a drought.

Thanks Neil. That would be great.
We had high winds all night which of course made a mess out of the yard. It's hot and dry here today.
Thanks again.

I just bought Luminosity a couple months ago. If it does well, I could possibly share next Aug/Sept 08. Quite a few of those are on my Wish List, so I'll keep an eye open for any good deals from a good company.

Oh, thank you dmac. I sure appreciate that.

I think the most easy Byers plants to find are the two Dykes winners, Thornbird and Conjuration. Many other TBs may be available. The medians exept for IB Low Ho Silver will be more difficult to locate. Start with the "easy" amd work over several years. The posted list was very complete, but you might find out the names in the different classes.

Thank you everyone.

I've been scrolling through the iris at Blue J and they've got 17 and I'm only starting in the letter D varieties:lol: Plus they're only around $2.20 each so I'm making a list....well, OK ANOTHER list! ;)

Weegy12 ... I completed some major landscaping this past year and unfortunately ended up taking out most of my Byers rhizomes. However, I do have seeds from some Thornbird crosses, and possibly some from Conjuration. I would be glad to share if he's interested.

I haven't heard back from my friend but will let you know if I do. Thanks so much.

I have Stars & Stripes, but if you want it you are going to have to take delivery now (which is not ideal).

I am moving this weekend, and while I did save a piece for myself, the rest of the clump will remain here.

If you can wait for two years, I will be able to send you a piece then.

I was wandering through GW and found this place which has a ton of Byers iris.

http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/c/4025/

The reblooming section is of course loaded with them. The tall bearded section is divided into early, mid and late bloomers and also has many Byers iris throughout. It looks like most selection here are $5--only a few newer iris are pricier.

Hope that helps:)
