Does anyone know what has happened to Glenville Nursery please? They specialised in mail order rooted shrub cuttings and I had several nice things form them, both when I was in the UK and since coming out to France. However today I tried to get onto their website www,glenvillenurseries.com and nothing came up. I do hope they are still in existence and that it is just a minor hiccup with their website.
Does anybody know?
Glenville Nursery?
I just did a search for them, the address was with a .co.uk on the end but it came up as not available. I bought several things from them a few years ago, they did have some good shrubs etc and cheap I thought.
It might be temporary but they might have also given up the business, I'm noticing a few nurseries taking retirement lately.
Yes, silly me I should have written .co.uk that was the address I tried. Mind playing tricks as usual LOL
Yes, I really liked their stuff - a very economical way of getting good shrubs. Fingers crossed it's a temporary blip.
Where were they based?
Some nurseries just couldnt cope with the bad weather this year. Low orders and losses from the wet..
Saying that its worth trying later... royail mails website keeps crashing on me! But they do have problems anyway. lol
Mike
I can't remember where they were Mike. Somewhere in the middle of England I think. That leaves it rather open lol.
Yes, I'll try a bit later on and keep my fingers crossed, thanks.
I found one of the last catalogues they sent to me, it was the 2004 cat. but I hadn't bought anything since possibly 2001. It got to the point where I had what I wanted from them.
The address was:

I guess it's Ok to give the email address as they were in business, I can edit it out if anyone thinks I should.
Wow thanks a lot wallaby!
I can't see anything wrong with giving the email as it's a business one.
That's great, now I can at least try and get in touch with them :)
Yes, it was a limited catalogue, but now that I'm here I could really do with some of it
You just don't know what you can find out on DG until you try! It didn't occur to me to look for a catalogue earlier, I had a clear out not long ago but kept just a few for reference.
Aren't I the lucky one LOL - that's if they're still in business. I really appreciate you going to all that trouble
If they are not in business under that name they might be under another name. Wisbeach is filled with small growers alot do mail order or bedding plants. Alot grow veg round that area too. So i guess if they had a greenhouse they will be trading under another name if they are not around now.
have just realised that my brother lives in Cambridge so perhaps I'll send him on a hunt ;o)
Meanwhile I've sent an email to the address you found thanks wallaby
Hey thats a good plan....
Let us know how you get on.
Mike
Will do Mike, thanks
Have you heard from Glenville yet philomel?
Unfortunately not. I've been really busy, but will get my brother to investigate ..... :)
I just came across an old order sheet and phoned the number. Unfortunately the joint owner died a couple of years ago and as his wife is now a pensioner the business is no more.
Had a lovely conversation with her and was able to thank her for all the great cuttings I've had over the years.
I don't know of anyone else with a similar retail business, just seems to be wholesale. If anyone knows of one I'd be very grateful to hear....
philomel - was there something in particular that you were looking for - you mention they sent shrub cuttings - perhaps one of us has what you are looking for and can root them up and send them on.
Thanks Laurie, what a kind thought. I'm not really looking for anything particular - except perhaps Carpentaria californica. I just used to love browsing their catalogue and choosing things to try.
a very nice way to think about plants.
