cornmeal or gluten?

looking for a natural to put over my iris beds as a preemergent and/or fertilizer ....I know nothing...I need advise or a link

Gluten's the one that acts as a pre-emergent herbicide. It's often called "corn gluten meal", but I don't believe that it's the same thing as cornmeal. (could be wrong though!)
