Ive never been overwhelmingly please with Star of Daybreaks Performance
I love the variegation but sooo slow to grow.
So I did a graft to another Obesum

On this one I grafted 4 varieties into a 6 branched Obesum caudex
I left the 2 lower side branches as the original plants
I cut them to be sure energy would go to all the other branches as well.

Oh boy!. Hope those go well for you. Cant wait to see. I have a massive aribicum that I am thinking of grafting several different colors to.
Need to go move them this morning. Subtropical storm moving in this afternoon.

Brave soul.....
I notice you are grafting a lot to arabicum. Any special reason?
Have you ever tried crossing your adeniums? I bought an A. swazicum x somalense, can't wait to see it bloom, it has a big caudex and lots of leaves.

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

I sure have tried crossing them.
This is the first year Ill have seedpods.
I crossed hybrids though not species.
Ill have a few of each species in bloom next year
Ill do some cross pollinations of them then.
Winter in PA means root rot if you dont prepare correctly
I chose the Arabicums as they are less likely to rot.

Is that electrical tape you're using?

I bought grafting tape, but it's more for trees. I want some of the tape that I get on my grafts from Thailand, but can't find it anywhere. Electrical tap would work well I'd think. Or even plumbers tape.

Electrical tape is awesome
I also use the breatheable adhesive tape for bandages.
I prefer that as it breathes.
The electrical tape holds forever.
I have had no problems with it yet
Remove it slow and carefully ;)

Wonderful! Good luck with the new grafts!

Malestrom, what are those metal pieces you use for the plant tags?

Yardley, PA

Thanks for the pictures! Do you want the branch you are grafting on to be a certain size? If the host branch is larger, do you try to graft a few branches onto it? Does the branch you are grafting to need to be young or on the younger size?
To you make the "V" shape cut? How long do you keep the tape on? Now I have a big Arabicum socotranum (that is how I have it names but I think it has to be one or the other). It doesn't flower very well, so as long as there are leaves on the branches, can I use them to graft on? I have probably given you a headache, so I won't ask any more questions (yet.) Thanks. Sally

And in NJ too, which is why mine stay in my office (always warm, even in summertime).
