Inspired by backsplash...must get started- what do I need?

I am in awe of the backsplash that WUVIE provided a link to. It's EXACTLY what I want to do in my own kitchen. My problem is: I'm not a mosaic-er...yet.

I don't know what supplies I need.
I don't know where to find these types of supplies (cheaply)
I DO have an artsy nature, so I'm confident I can do it, but I'm a 'do your homework first' kinda gal, so I need all the information & ducks in rows before I start something like this so it gets done right and doesn't end up all falling off in a month because I screwed it up.

HELP!
