I recently received a plant that had a potting mix of sphagnum peat, composted pine bark, perlite, and RICE HULLS. Interesting combination.
Has anyone used rice hulls?
Does anyone know of a retail source for them?

Rice Hulls
I've never used rice hulls for planting anything, and don't know of a source.
I have a friend who managed a rice-hull reclamation plant in Stuttgart, Arkansas for years - it's a big business down there. Rice hulls are just cellulose, they're used in some kinds of insulation and in manufacturing fiber board.
Rice hulls wouldn't have any nutrient value to plants, they just take up space and hold water. I wouldn't bother trying to find a source, as peat moss, spaghnum moss, sawdust, or many other "neutral" materials would do exactly the same thing.
