Hi, I just cut a huge watermelon into slices, and plan to put the rind into the compost heap. Should I cut this in smaller chunks, or leave it as is. Right now it is in slices about 2 inches thick, and the circles cut in half. It was a very tough skinned melon. I won't be using the compost until next spring, if that matters.
Thanks, Cathy (new at composting)
composting watermelon rind, cut up??
I cut it up into smaller pieces, that way it will break down quicker.
Paul
Thanks Paul!
Hi, I know it breaks doen quicker, but I have one pile that I don't mind how long it takes, so I just throw it all in and don't cut it. Of course I have water melons growing in it. Wonder if I leave them alone will they really grow fruit
