Last year I was given a Jatropha podagrica. It bloomed and I got volunteers to give away. Went dormant over the winter, then put out new leaves for summer. But no blooms. I've been keeping it in a warm but not hot south-facing room under a CFI, watering when dry, not fertilizing too much. I potted it in a mix that's good for terrestrial orchids (I think I added extra perlite; it drains very well) and in a terra cotta pot. So what's left to do for it?
What does a Buddha belly plant want?
My Jatropha podagrica likes a lot of water in the summer. I put mine outside in the sun. For a number of summers I put my right in the dirt with my flowers and the growth was astounding. I dug it up in the fall and put it back in a pot. They are pretty tough and not very water sensitive like some of the others. I put a quarter next to it so you could see the size. Most of the size came from being in the garden. I may do that again next year.
I am salivating, as I type.
This plant could quickly become an obsession with me, I fear. Yikes!
I'll be watching this thread, for any and all info I can glean. :-)
Is it too early to contact Santa? Would it fit in a "stocking"?
