Need advice on hysterectomy

I am scheduled for a hysterectomy because of a large fibroid and a large cyst on my ovary. I'm still going through menopause and because there are breast cancer and heart problems in my immediate family, I don't think I want to risk HRT.

The doctor says she can leave me one ovary and that will still provide some hormone. Has anyone had an operation like this? Is it worth it to keep the one ovary, if there is a chance it may have to come out at a later date?

Thanks for any advice, my Mom died of cancer years ago so I have no one to talk to about this.
