Zone 5, Iris withering

Is it normal (as if the weather this year is normal) to have Iris withering up in August ? Withering from the tip down, perhaps 25-33% of some plants. I watered briefly today, but tend to water the Iris briefly every other week.

I know that through the summer a small number of leaves will wither and turn brown, yet the majority of the plant stands tall and green.
