Prince Charles in shady area

Libby, MT(Zone 4b)

I'am in Zone 4 and would like a blue or blueish purple clematis for a dappled shade area. It will be growing up my chainlink fence. I have a Prince Charles and love the color. I have Etoille violet and Jackmanni and love them all, but they are all in all day sun, so do not know how they would do in shade.

I thought of Arabella and rooguchi. Thanks DM

Have you thought about pairings with:
"Ascotiensis' http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=74 or
"Wisley" http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=2957

"Arabella" and "Rooguchi" would be great too. I especially like that "Rooguchi's" shape would differ, lending more interest to the potential pair. You would have to assist "Rooguchi" with it's climbing ability, since it is an integrifolia.

Of course there is the pairing of 'Prince Charles' with texensis, "Princess Diana' http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=530 , but she would need more sun to bring out her beautiful bright pink glow.

Shirley thanks for the response.
I really like ascotiensis. I think rooguchi and arabella together would look pretty. I also love Diana. Gonna have to find a special place for her. Do you have Dianna?? Just wondering how well it grows ect. DM

I love all the texensis varieties. "Princess Diana", which is readily available commercially will bloom beautifully in late Summer and grace your garden with it's tulip shaped flowers. I don't have this particular variety, but I do have "Lady Bird Johnson".
