Questions on Deathly Hallows - possible spoilers

OK,.... after finishing the book, i have a question on the Elder Wand.

Harry was saying, at the end, that the true owner of the wand is/was Malfoy ... but he never killed to take ownership, or was it the fact that he was supposed to kill Dumbledore -- but since he didn't, how could he have supposedly the 'master' ??

I do though, understand the rest of the 'ownership' and how Voldemort was NOT the master.

[an aside on that thought -- did Malfoy ever know he was supposed to kill Dumbledore?]
He does not seem strong enough to do that though... it did seem he was all talk, not much action... always hiding behind others.

the nod of recognition at the very end was a nice touch though.

I may have more questions later -- that was the only one right off that was buggin' me.
