what is this?

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

hi,
my dh found 2 of these ?'s yesterday. one was in a sunny area and the other was in a shady area. both were the same. about 12-15" long, 2-3" wide and 1/4-3/8" deep. it is darker than the picture shows, more of a tan color. the inside was a pudding consistency and had a soft & coarse outer shell. i don't or where or how they came to be in my garden beds.
i would appreciate any insight. if i need to go to another forum, please let me know that too.
thanks,

here is where we found it in our shady garden area, between trees on left and the white urn, on the outter side of the garden bed. the other pile, was also found on the outer side of the garden bed, but in a sunny area.

i'm looking forward to hearing from you all.

It's probably a harmless slime mold called "Fuligo septica". Or the pekingese had a upset stomach.
