What is this beautiful bug?

Saint Louis, MO

My 8 year old found this interesting bug on the church outside wall at a wedding during the lengthy picture taking session. It kept him quite busy! It has a proboscis and small wings at this point in its life. It was able to flutter short distances only. See photo. Thanks for your help. We will wait patiently.

Mom and Nathan,
Your interesting bug is rather surprisingly a moth. It is the Ailanthus Webworm Moth (Atteva punctella): http://davesgarden.com/bf/showimage/2834/

This is not really the appropriate place to ask for help with an identification. We have in Dave's Garden a Bug and Insect Identification Discussion Forum: http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/bugid/all/
where many bugs are successfully identified.

Would you consider posting your picture of this lovely moth to our BugFiles entry here: http://davesgarden.com/bf/go/908/
