I have been offered some "Pacific Coast Iris" and am wondering how well they will do in my northern climate. We do have dependable winter snow cover. This past season some Lousianna Iris made it thru the cold spell (a six month spell), having been planted by the creek which doesn't freeze, but of course, no blooms. This was the first year for them.
Are they a different breed of iris or is this a catch-all term? I'd like to try them but if they aren't suitable for this climate, won't take them.
Any suggestions would be appreciated on the LA's or the WC iris.
Pacific Coast Iris
I thought someone would have jumped in by now. I've not had much luck with PCI here in TN and am down to three barely hanging in there.
Here's some info on their requirements that might help you decide if you want to try them.

I heard they are impossible to grow except on the Pacific Coast. Of course you can always try and you never know...

I love PCI's and I am game to try a lot of things, but the Pacific Coast climate is so different from mine, I don't intend even to try. Still, their colors and forms are, to my taste, among the most beautiful of iris, right up there with Japanese which also don't grow.
I do plan to try arilbreds. Lots of them are from Turkey which as a climate rather like New Mexico.
Wow...those are gorgeous! I guess those are on the 'out-of-my-reach' list here in Z5...sigh.
