I have a 5 gallon bucket...

Greenback, TN

If I fill this bucket with greens and browns and put the lid on it and roll it every day, how much water should I add? About a cup? Also, how long until it's compost? Should the lid stay on or off?

Great idea for the 5-gallon bucket, however you will need to drill holes in the bucket for oxygen. Go visit the links below for more information. Godspeed and good harvest!

I have two of the black plastic bins which hold about 80 gallons each and I cannot produce nearly enough compost for my garden beds. I guess a 5 gallon bucket is a start, but keep in mind that 1 cubic yard of compost equals about 200 gallons. I would suggest adding a scoop of soil or finished compost to boost the number of organisms and get the compost process going.
