Quick question about "The President".

Millersburg, PA(Zone 6b)

My vine, which I planted last August, bloomed beautifully this spring. I thought it was done. Now, several weeks later it is making new buds.

Should I cut it back? Or is it normal for it to bloom off and on during the summer months? We were under drought conditions and just got 3/4" of rain.

I don't want to stress out this young plant. Or have it get the wilt.

I would have cut it back after it finished blooming. However, now that it is forming new buds, wait until after the next flush of flowers and then cut it back.

Thanks Shirley, it has beautiful blooms and I would rather forego the bloom than make it weak.

Pruning your Clematis won't weaken it. It encourages more stems to form, a bushier plant and more flowers are produced.
