Hubby went out to my garden today and found these all over a patch of coneflowers. What are they? Are they good or bad? We know nothing about caterpillars but sure don't want to destroy them of they are good guys. Thanks for your help!

Are they fuzzy (hairy) or just spiky? Can't tell from the photo....

Or ask in the Butterfly forum,....they know alot about caterpillars. They can probably tell you what it is.

If you post this in the "hummingbird and butterfly gardening" forum, they will know right away.

They just answered one for me today.

Did you figure it out? I have something very much like that. I was going to hunt down the camera and take a picture.

Happy_Macomb...I was intending to ask in another forum but when I went out the next day to get a better pic,the bluejays had eaten every last one of them and I never have seen another since.I sure hope they weren't good caterpillars : ( Hope you can get a pic of yours and find out what they are.

Mine do not have a friendly look. I'll try to take a photo tomorrow.
